Background

The Possible Zone (TPZ) is a nonprofit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, dedicated to advancing economic equity by equipping young people with the entrepreneurial spirit, skills, and networks necessary to launch successful careers. Since its inception in 2011, TPZ has served over 1,200 students, focusing on fostering innovation and self-development among high school students from diverse backgrounds.

TPZ's strategic focus centers on providing a comprehensive, experiential learning program that integrates entrepreneurship education with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) disciplines. The organization offers a three-year after-school curriculum encompassing:

• Work-Based Learning: Consulting projects with industry partners and internships facilitated through collaborations with organizations like Boston’s Private Industry Council.

• Pathways Programming: Personalized advising and courses in career and college exploration to ensure students have a clear post-secondary plan.

Financials and Funding

As a nonprofit entity, TPZ relies on a diversified funding structure that includes contributions from public agencies, private foundations, corporations, and individual donors. The organization has received transformational gifts from seed investors, enabling the provision of tuition-free programs, student stipends, on-site meals, project supplies, and access to state-of-the-art technology. TPZ's Development team is committed to diversifying the funding portfolio to support scaling efforts and ensure sustainability.

Pipeline Development

TPZ's program development is structured around a multi-year measurement and evaluation plan, currently in the Formative Research phase. This phase focuses on rapid testing and iterative improvement of the program model and implementation. The Summative Evaluation phase, set to begin in late 2026, will involve independent research to validate the program's impact. The goal is to serve up to 1,000 Boston high school students annually by 2026, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills and STEAM competencies.

Technological Platform and Innovation

TPZ operates a 36,000-square-foot Innovation Center in Boston's Jackson Square neighborhood, equipped with professional-level tools and technologies, including:

• 3D Print Farm: Utilizing Dremel 3D printers for prototyping.

• Laser Cutter: Glowforge laser cutter for precision fabrication.

• Woodshop and Print Shop: Facilities for hands-on learning in woodworking and printing.

• Fiber Arts Studio and Spray Booth: Spaces for creative exploration in textiles and painting.

• Materials Shop and Vinyl Cutters: Resources for diverse material manipulation and design.

• General Maker Tools and Specialty Design Software: Supporting a wide range of creative and technical projects.
