Early History
- Pre-1970s: The concept of sociocracy was first introduced by Auguste Comte in the early 1800s and operationalized by anti-Nazi activist Kees Boeke in a Quaker school in the 1940s.
1970s
- 1970s: Gerard Endenburg, after inheriting his family’s manufacturing firm, Endenburg Electrotechniek, developed the Sociocratic Circle Method (SCM).
1980s-1990s
- 1980s-1990s: Gerard Endenburg founded Sociocratisch Centrum, which was overseen and managed by Annewiek Reijmer. Hundreds of organizations adopted SCM during this time, and sociocratic consultants began to be certified globally.
