Summary
I have been a journalist since 1988, when I began writing an opinion column for The Daily Illini at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I majored in history and political science. Since then I have worked for Crain's Chicago Business, The San Jose Mercury News, The Nikkei-Weekly (when I lived in Tokyo as a Henry Luce Scholar), TheStreet.com, and Fortune, where I was executive editor when I left in 2020 after 19 years. Along the way I've written two books: Inside Apple (about Apple) and Wild Ride (about Uber); was a regular contributor to the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network; organized conferences around the world; and have been a frequent moderator and speaker at various events. Though I left many years ago, I still consider myself a Chicagoan. I live in San Francisco with my wife and daughter.
