Summary
Educator, Researcher, and Entrepreneur. Prof. Sheth is working towards a vision of Computing for Human Experience incorporating AI (neuro-symbolic and knowledge-infused learning, semantic-cognitive-perceptual computing). Current areas of his research include knowledge-infusion and knowledge-elicitation in neural networks, explainable and safe AI, AI grounding and alignment, and applications to health, social good and mitigation of social harm (toxicity, misinformation), education, & future manufacturing. He is well-cited (recent h-index 116; >56,000 citations; >130 (>13%) of his >900 publications have >100 citations each). He placed among the top 50/80 authors in Computer Science in USA/world in 2022 Research.com report; earlier, he ranked among the top few in WWW and among ~25 in databases. He was elected a fellow of the ACM “for contributions to data semantics and knowledge-enhanced computing,” the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) “for significant contributions to knowledge-empowered AI techniques and semantic technologies.,” the AAAS "for his pioneering and enduring contributions on information integration, distributed workflow, and semantics and knowledge-based big data analytics," and a fellow of the IEEE for “for contributions to information integration and workflow management.” His awards include the IEEE CS McDowell Award, IEEE TCSVC Research Innovation, Distinguished Alumni Award for Academic Excellence, Ohio Faculty Commercialization (runner-up), and Trustee Award. He has given >90 keynotes, >200 invited talks, served as (co)EIC of three journals and two book series, organized over 100 international events, and served on >250 program committees. He has served as a PI of >$33m in federal competitive funding, mainly from NIH and NSF. His research has led to several commercial products and many deployed applications. Three of the four companies he has co-founded (Infocosm, Taalee/Semagix, Cognovi Labs) are based on the licensing of his university research. His earlier work encompassed federated databases, semantic interoperability, workflow management, and big/smart data. Sheth’s most prized achievement is the exceptional success of his >45 Ph.D. students’ and postdocs’ exceptional success in academia, industry research labs, and as entrepreneurs; a majority of the first 20 Ph.D. advisees have 1000+ citations each and avg > 1800 and mean > 1400 citations; 3 with 5000+ citations. https://j.mp/Kimpact
