Summary

After working as advocate counsel at the Calcutta High Court followed by a stint in London working with a city firm I went on to co-found ALMT Legal in London as a law firm advising on Indian laws. I moved from London to Mumbai in 2001 to set up ALMT’s first Indian office in Mumbai which was followed by lateral mergers and expansion pan India. In 2009 ALMT Legal entered into a Best Friends arrangement with international law form Clyde and Co. The firm’s work environment became multinational with offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Middle East and South East Asia. The Best Friends arrangement did not last and a severance was negotiated. Following the severance I decided to gradually move out of the law firm business and practice individually along with running my legacy family office P C Mitter and Co which involves managing real estate, financial investments, complicated inter personal ownership and stake holding issues, tax, litigation, trusts and charitable societies. I have advised clients in a wide industry spectrum from manufacturing, publishing, technology, infra structure, telecom, shipping, aviation and taxation. I have presented papers and spoke at conferences of professional bodies such as International Bar Association (IBA), the Inter Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), International Air Transport Authority (IATA), Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). I have been voted as a leading Aviation Lawyer by Who’s Who Legal for 2009, 2010 and 2011. I have built and led teams of lawyers many of whom are now spread all over the world in key roles in law firms and as general counsel in corporations. Other than being an accredited lawyer with proven experience as legal counsel in a senior business environment I have developed understanding, skills and wisdom relating to: • Technology, disruption and innovation • Proactive and defensive legal and business strategies • Professional ethics, integrity and sound judgment with the ability to analyse situations, information and human behaviour • Contract and business negotiation, written and oral communication, advocacy, manage multiple projects and adapt to new subjects, topics and paradigm • Analytical and problem solving skills as well as interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders I have now committed my time and effort in cutting edge technology and innovation focused on human beings having a digital experience without losing the sense of being grounded as a human being with its physical, sensory and aspirational attributes.
