Summary
Andrew ‘Barn’ Barnabas is an award winning and BAFTA nominated composer and musician, specialising in writing inventive and distinctive music for TV, Film and Interactive Media. As both a composer for cutting edge new media and classically trained performing musician, Barn is adept at combining the old and new. After landing his first commission at seventeen for video game SWIV, he found himself at the centre of a creative boom in the rapidly changing games industry, where his bold, experimental approach to scoring has helped break new ground. With his roots in classical, coupled with a passion for funk and disco, his inventive and unorthodox scores have also solidified his standing in Film and TV. Barn's credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Parkhouse Pictures, Friday Night Live and Dead Pixels for Channel 4, The One Show for BBC, video game F1 Manager and The Hatton Garden Job for Fiction Films. His idiosyncratic score for the RTS Award Nominated Harvey Greenfield is Running Late saw Barn record percussion, marimba, double bass, string quartet and a choir at Queens’ College Chapel. Barn's career to date has earned him numerous accolades, including winning the coveted Crystal Pine Award for his score for Netflix documentary Hating Peter Tatchell, winning Best Action Score for his 80s synth-inspired work on Green Street 3 and earning a BAFTA nomination for his first live orchestral score for Sony's Primal game. Barn runs 'VGM', the first game audio network. In 2006 to coincide with the Develop Conference he started a VGM drinks meetup. What started with 5 has now grown to the largest game audio networking event in the world. If you work in games and wish to attend, please get in touch. (The event will be moving venue in 2025 as we've outgrown the current host). An avid gamer and passionate advocate for game audio Barn is reguarly asked to speak at events for both trade and academia. He resides in Cambridge with his wife and daughter.
