Anne Thomas (formerly known as Anne Thomas Manes) is a renowned expert in service oriented architecture (SOA). She is a distinguished analyst covering application architecture and mobile computing at Gartner, Inc. Gartner provides research and advisory services on information technology to global enterprises and government organizations. Anne joined Gartner via the acquisition of Burton Group. Prior to joining Burton Group, Anne worked as an independent consultant while writing a book, "Web Services: A Manager's Guide", which was published by Addison Wesley in 2003. Anne gained valuable SOA experience working as CTO for Systinet during its formative years in 2001 and 2002, and she pioneered Sun's web services strategy in 2000. She has also participated in standards development efforts at W3C, OASIS, JCP, UDDI.org, and WS-I. Prior to the advent of SOA and web services technology, Anne worked as a distributed computing technologist for companies such as IBM, Cullinet, DEC, and Borland. She got her first taste of the research and advisory business at Patricia Seybold Group.
