Summary
In my work life, I combine insights from disparate disciplines to frame existing problems from new perspectives, opening doors to powerful new solutions. I currently wear several interrelated hats… I'm passionate developer of EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY. I created two groundbreaking, highly rated apps to help musicians understand & employ abstract harmonic concepts at a deep level… and develop the fast reflexes needed to create complex, heartfelt music on the fly. Recently I co-founded a company to revolutionize how children practice reading English, bringing them to decoding automaticity with novel efficiency. I'm a JAZZ SAXOPHONIST. I compose jazz music, record CDs and tour nationally, performing with my band in concert halls, clubs, jazz festivals. My two latest CDs enjoyed long Top 10 runs on the U.S. Jazz Radio charts. I am a dedicated, expert JAZZ EDUCATOR. I offer remote workshops and individual lessons to intermediate through professional level jazz musicians. My specialties are efficient practice, jazz improvisation, music theory and, above all, learning to operationalize one's musical knowledge to create compelling music in real time. My rather unusual BACKGROUND: I began playing music at a young age but got my BA in Math & Philosophy at Harvard and did foundational research in Machine Learning as a National Science Foundation Fellow at Stanford before making the switch to be a full time musician. In 2018 I rekindled my connection to technology, and have been designing interactive educational tools since then.
