Summary
Barry has been building applications that make a difference in people's lives for almost two decades. His unique ability to code at the bare metal while placing himself in the position of the user allows him to do what he does best - design, build and support applications that are on time, highly scalable and delight users. Barry has been building web applications since 1998 and enjoys the variety of roles and challenges that he has had to deal with - from key contributor, team lead or architect on a larger team through to do-it-all-yourself individual contributor on contract and start-up projects. As versatile on a project as he is on a kiteboard, Barry is inspired by the ever-changing face of software development. From hard-core C/C++ programming right up to his current expertise as a Ruby on Rails hacker and cloud deployment expert, he constantly works to stay up to date on the latest trends in software engineering. He has contributed to a number of open-source projects in the cloud infrastructure and social network areas. Currently Barry is using his RoR skills as co-founder and CTO of Qstream, an innovative learning technology company that spun off from Harvard in 2008. Among other projects, he has previously built a social music application and played a senior engineering role in an enterprise learning application used by millions of learners. He has yet to meet an engineering challenge that he has failed to tame - even if it takes a few weekends and long nights. (And coffee. Lots of coffee.) Specialties: SaaS, Social web applications, educational software, UI, cloud deployment (Amazon), mobile web, database design, C++, Ruby on Rails, Angular JS, JavaScript, CSS, HTML and other web technologies.
