Summary
I'm interested in how groups form and function, how standards emerge, and why networks condense. For example how industrial standards shape markets. Or how firms, professionals, foundations, and governments create effective collective action to create what economists call 'public goods'. An example: open source provides a way for users to negotiate standards in manner that keeps the public good created focused on their actual needs. For example: developer networks provide a way for firms to shape how much of their product offering they keep open and there by tap into the vitality provided by 3rd party developers. Oh, and I suspect that two side networks are a distinct species.
