Summary
Experienced leader in higher education curriculum and pedagogy with a particular focus on online learning and the use of technology in education. In the last 20 years, I have designed, developed, and delivered impactful learning programs for leading universities in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, applying sound educational theory and design-based approaches to solving persistent problems in the provision of higher and adult education. My experience includes meaningful integration of technology at course, program and institutional levels; large-scale curriculum reform; staff development for all modes of delivery; interventions to address quality issues in distance and online learning; implementation of standards for technology-mediated teaching practices, design and development of social learning in online environments and leadership in institutional academic strategy and operations. I have received multiple awards and recognition for my contribution to student learning and excellence in distance education. Most recently, as the Director of Professional Learning and the Head of AUT Learning Transformations Lab (altLAB) at Auckland University of Technology—a top 250 university world wide and top 50 young university—I led the institutional learning and teaching support unit including all support operations for learning design, academic practice consulting, learning technology and educational media development. During my time at AUT, I oversaw the university’s largest ever investment in teaching and learning including an LMS replacement, complete institution-wide curriculum redevelopment and comprehensive teaching development program, aiming to enhance the quality and innovation of online and blended learning across the university.
