Summary

At heart I am a car nut that hopes to hold a wide variety of roles within the automotive community and public sector. The industry I’ve enjoyed for more than 30 years is facing dramatic change, and its community of professionals is changing as well to meet our new challenges. The proliferation of software, connectivity, autonomy and electrification will transform what we think about cars alongside how we buy and use them, and this will ultimately affect the sustainability of all things reliant on them. Buckle up... the next decade should be an exciting time. That would be my way of saying it’s a good time to be a car guy. My career started in high school with General Motors, where my mother spent 30 years as a skilled tradesman. With more than three decades of my own stories to tell from GM, Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles spanning the entire automobile product lifecycle, I’m one of the more well-rounded automotive professionals that you could get to know. Having spent nearly all of my professional career working for big companies with large resources, I decided it was time to try something smaller, and in 2018 joined Wejo, a company that helped play a role in data management for car companies and their partners. Car data is not terribly different than any other automotive product, and requires many of the same principles of product management to execute well. All of the auto industry is readying itself for the benefit that vehicle-derived data will provide, and I'm very interested to make new contacts here to share knowledge on this relatively new vertical. Since 2013 I've also had the honor of serving Pleasant Ridge, Michigan as one of its City Commissioners and most recently as its Mayor. As with car design, there's little better than seeing something you do result in good experiences for others. Being a mayor affords me access to the legislative process as well as an understanding of how infrastructure works, both of which are crucial as we navigate the transition to electric and non-motorized vehicles (get on your bikes, folks!). If I send you a request to link in, it's probably because I either know you or am very curious about what you do. And please feel free to connect with me if you are curious too!
