Summary
I'm a farmer, writer and activist who has also spent a lot of time thinking about transformational social change. And for a spell running an environmental organization. And developing software that tries to make a difference and that normal people can use. I have experience growing a business from concept to startup to profitability to sale. I'm capable of understanding what people want. I've had the pleasure of helping create products millions of people use every day. And I lead a rich inner life. My résumé includes CEO of Greenhome.com, Lead Analyst at Interval Research, Product Manager at Broderbund Software, Special Consultant for Paul Allen/Vulcan Ventures, and a few television appearances, keynote speeches and newspaper articles. With Green Home, we were the first environmentally friendly superstore, and also the first to make a business of "greening," taking a home or venue and retrofitting it to be sustainable and healthy for people + planet. Wikipedia's entry for "greening" cites Green Home as its reference. Greenhome.com was widely used as a resource that filtered products for how eco-friendly they were. With Interval, I was brought in by the Allen family and Frank Geary to launch the Experience Music Project in Seattle. I worked with both Berkeley Breathed and Neil Stevenson to develop multimedia versions of their work. I developed early prototypes for multimedia collaborative software. I've also spent time as a reporter and editorial writer, and have stories published in the LA Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and other papers and magazines, some listed below. Currently I am focused on creating a retreat center where people can feel safe to go through whatever changes they need to. It's called Cabañas Ermita, an hour north of Cabo. You or your small group can have a safe space to do whatever: retreat, cleanse, write, meditate, do yoga, not do yoga, you name it. Good spot for a small leadership conference. There's an adjacent food forest farm where we're pioneering sustainable ways to grow herbs and fruits. You can visit that too, and even be an intern. I'm still working on some software projects, specifically for people to find each other and create solutions together. I've also over the years developed some understanding of and skills in environmentally friendly/fair trade product qualification/screening, and certification. It's not a perfect word, but I love the concept of Consumerism. People can and should vote with their dollars. Money is the only thing corporations listen to, and if we come together, we can force them to obey us.
