Summary
I am a family physician and digital health expert, as well as a skilled medical editor, writer, and communicator. I have a passion for Digital Health / eHealth, Virtual Care, Health Informatics, Health Tech, and Health Innovation including AI in Healthcare, with more than a decade of experience in the industry. Presently, I work as the Senior Physician Leader with Canada Health Infoway, a federally funded non-profit organization that is accelerating the development, adoption and effective use of digital health solutions across Canada. In this leadership role, I apply a broad knowledge of digital health, health policy, change management, and professional practice in the Canadian health care system, to the solving complex problems relating to the use of digital health solutions by clinicians and patients. My work has been featured in media including the Toronto Star, the Hamilton Spectator, the Canadian Medical Association Journal, Canadian Family Physician, Canadian Healthcare Technology, and the Medical Post. I have been interviewed by the CBC, the Toronto Star, and CFRB 1010 as a digital health expert. I have presented at numerous medical and digital health conferences with both national and international reach, and have authored a book chapter and recent publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, such as JMIR, and Frontiers in Public Health. Additionally, I am a regular guest on the Infocast digital health podcast. In addition to my medical training, recently I completed a Masters Certificate in Physician Leadership from York University’s Schulich School of Executive Management, a Certificate in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare from McMaster University-NIHI, and executive education in Leading Digital Transformation at Harvard Medical School. I have a keen interest in medical education, and worked on initiatives to integrate the teaching of health informatics in the medical curriculum, in addition to advising graduate students in both healthcare and business. Also, I am a consultant to digital health startups and have advised numerous companies over the past few years, as well as providing expertise to international digital health agencies. Recently, I had the honour of being named to Enterprise Ireland’s Canada Healthcare Advisory panel. Finally, I have been practicing family medicine for almost 20 years, and have worked in multiple practice settings in rural and urban settings, including as a hospitalist. Currently, I work in an EMR-enabled setting in Brampton, where I have been since practicing since 2007.
