You’re reasonably successful, and then comes the point where you ask yourself, “What’s next for me?” Of course, you... - Turned to your friends for support. - Read the self-help books. - Talked to our spouse or soul friend. - Sign up for a class and another one. - You’ve hired a pro, and even that didn’t help. - At some point, you started to think, “maybe something is wrong with me? And in the back of your mind, there is this nagging feeling – what if I waste the next 20 years of my life? What if I never get there (and do you actually know where “there” is?). Good news for you: I’ve been there. In my life, I’ve done a lot of firsts and worked in many fields: - I co-invented the first electronic book. - Built the multimedia market for Apple in Austria. - Created the first German-language newspaper on the Internet. - Was the first working with CD-ROM in Central Europe. - Created and built the first lifestyle Infomediary startup on the Web. I worked at the French Film Archive as a fashion photographer, a software engineer at libraries, marketing for Apple and Philips, and Amazon, built five start-ups in Silicon Valley and have been teaching in business and academia in Europe and the US since the mid-80s. And all of this came about because I kept asking the question, “What’s next for me?” and, most importantly, “Why am I doing all this?” I never stopped asking myself that question, and that’s where I found achievement and fulfillment in my life. And that’s when I realized... it’s not about work/life balance but about work-life integration.
