Summary
Florian Heinemann is a Founding and General Partner at Project A Ventures, a European early-stage VC with approx. USD 1.5B in assets under management. Beyond capital, Project A provides hands-on support through 100+ in-house experts in product, growth, data, and people. Since 2012, the firm has backed 120+ companies, including Trade Republic, Spryker, Kry, Sennder, WorldRemit/Zepz, Quantum Systems, Arx Robotics,, Uberall, Catawiki, and Dixa. Prior to co-founding Project A, Florian was Managing Director at Rocket Internet (2007–2012), where he led the operational value-add team with a focus on marketing, CRM, and business intelligence. During his time at Rocket, he was closely involved with companies such as Zalando, Global Fashion Group, and Spark Networks (formerly eDarling/Affinitas). Earlier in his career, Florian co-founded and served as Managing Director of JustBooks/AbeBooks, where he oversaw marketing and product (1999–2002; acquired by Amazon in 2008). He subsequently held senior roles in marketing and business intelligence at Jamba! and iLove (2003–2005; acquired by VeriSign). In 2006, he co-founded the online marketplace antibodies-online.com, which was later acquired by Broadoak. As an active angel investor, Florian has invested in over 80 startups (e.g., Zalando, Trivago, Citydeal/Groupon, Betreut.de/Care.com, Audibene, ClassPass, Bitbond, Lillydoo) and is an LP in 50+ VC funds with a focus on emerging managers. He sits on the supervisory boards of Körber, Fressnapf, Fiege, and Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, and is a member of the digital advisory boards of Henkel and Oetker. As a strong supporter of entrepreneurship education, he is involved with Startup Teens as a board member and with Code University as a Trustee and board member. Florian holds a doctorate in innovation management and entrepreneurship (RWTH Aachen) and was a visiting scholar at the Wharton School. He also holds a master’s degree from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and was a fellow of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
