Summary

For over two decades, I've been pioneering the fusion of human-centered design and artificial intelligence. As one of the earliest voices in mobile design (authoring O'Reilly's first book on the subject) and now a recognized leader in AI-first design, I've consistently pushed the boundaries of how humans and machines interact. I've led the user experience for over 150 products, including over 20+ AI-native products. I've built groundbreaking AI systems at Ai2 and transformative solutions for companies like Google, Amazon, Adobe, and Disney. My work spans the full spectrum of human-computer interaction – from mobile and web applications to autonomous vehicles, voice interfaces, and large language models. Leadership and innovation are in my DNA, literally – I come a large family of entrepreneurs and inventors (e.g. you likely use products my Dad invented every week, plus he designed things that are on the freakin moon!). The intersection of engineering and design was table talk in my family for as long as I can remember. I've built and led design teams ranging from 1 to 100 across startups and Fortune 500s, founded three companies (one acquired), and shaped the next generation of designers through a decade of teaching at one of America's top design schools for a decade. My insights on design and technology are regularly featured in industry publications, and I share my perspectives on the future of design through my podcast and speaking engagements worldwide. What drives me? Creating AI systems that amplify human potential rather than replace it. I'm fascinated by the challenge of making complex technology feel intuitive and human. Whether I'm advising startups, consulting for enterprises, or designing the next breakthrough AI product, my mission remains constant: ensuring technology serves humanity, not the other way around.
