Summary
Fred Vogelstein is an author and investigative biotech/biztech journalist based in Silicon Valley. For more than two decades - at Wired, The New York Times Magazine, and Fortune - he's chronicled the region's transformation from a tiny computer industry hub into ground zero for the most powerful, and now controversial, companies on the planet. They include some of the earliest investigations into Bill Gates' fear of Google, the mess at Yahoo, the smartphone wars, and both the rise and now, the growing pains of Facebook. His 2013 book Dogfight: How Apple and Google went to War and Started a Revolution was published in 17 countries to critical acclaim. He's been a finalist twice for The Gerald Loeb Award, business journalism's top prize. He's a board member of the Columbia Journalism Review, and treasurer of the Writers Grotto. He's also written about his family's struggles with epilepsy, a ten-year journey that drove them to become early users of the ketogenic diet and to help jump start development of the 2018 drug Epidiolex. Earlier in his career he wrote about finance for The Wall Street Journal and Newsday. His work has also appeared in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the Boston Globe. He has been a fellow in economics and business journalism at Columbia University and has a BA in political science from Pomona College.
