Summary
Consultant, researcher, data protection officer, and government advisor focused on digital identity, privacy and public policy. I am an expert in the regulation and privacy of digital identity and emerging technologies. My recent research focuses on the use of Emotional AI with children and adults, and I am deeply invested in the topic and technologies of online age assurance. I am currently an advisor to the UK Information Commissioner's Office, and have been a commissioned researcher for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Commercially, I help companies navigate the privacy and regulatory challenges of their products and services. I'm motivated by the responsible use of personal data in new business and technology domains, particularly in an international context. In addition to my specialisms, I have 30 years of industry experience in IT and digital media. I've worked with ID tech, automation, robotics, audiovisual encoding, and operations, in both management and consultant roles. Prior to becoming a consultant and researcher, I helped design and manufacture the Emmy Award-winning robotic video migration system, SAMMA. And, I have an extensive theater background, which I use as a conference and event chair.
