Summary
Henry Chung joined the Hyundai Motor Group in 2020 and served for 3 years as Senior Vice President and Head of CRADLE Silicon Valley, HMG's corporate venture capital and open innovation office in North America. CRADLE's team of 20 professionals had responsibility to multiple HMG subsidiaries, including: Hyundai Motors (autotech, EVs, electification), KIA, Genesis, Boston Dynamics (advanced robotics), Supernal (urban air mobility), Hyundai GLOVIS (logistics), Hyundai AutoEver (IT and connected services), Hyundai Capital (finance). Prior to joining Hyundai, Henry spent 10 years at LG Electronics and led teams responsible for leading venture capital activities in North America and engaging in open innovation activities with venture-backed startups, top universities, accelerators and national laboratories. Before his time at LG Electronics, Henry spent 4 years as a director of SVB Capital’s direct investment team, broadly investing from two funds in technology areas that spanned IT hardware, Internet, cleantech and life sciences. Prior to SVB Capital, Henry was Vice President at Newforth Partners – an M&A advisory firm now part of Woodside Capital Partners. In addition to these roles, Henry was a founding partner of Imagicians Interactive, a Boston-based interactive agency that eventually was sold to a traditional advertising agency, and he has also spent significant time as a management consultant with Fletcher Spaght – a boutique strategic consulting firm. Henry has also worked as a computer programmer developing system dynamics models at MITRE, and as a DNA researcher at the National Institutes of Health. Henry graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning both S.B. and M.Eng degrees in Electrical Engineering, with premedical and acoustics specialization. Henry is a native of Virginia, who lived for 13 years in Boston and has resided in the Bay Area since 2002 and is an avid golfer, tennis player, photographer and Boston sports fanatic.
