Summary
Currently CTO at Leela.AI, we make intelligent automatic monitoring of processes for manufacturing, laboratory, and industrial customers. Before that I was at Google/Nest Labs from 2011 to 2020, building server side APIs and big-data analytics pipelines for the fleet of Nest devices. I have worked extensively with hardware (electronics, VLSI) and software systems: analog, digital, integrated circuit design, firmware, networking software and big data pipelines. My technical education is grounded in study at MIT, with graduate research work at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, on hybrid symbolic-connectionist learning algorithms. I am interested in building artificial intelligence systems which match and exceed the capabilities of human performance. I have interests in machine vision, remote-sensing, computer networking, educational toys, embedded systems, and generally any sufficiently cool hacking. I have a hobby maintaining and restoring dead or obsolete technologies (teletypes, antique radio). I speak and read some Japanese. Specialties: Artificial Intelligence, pattern-recognition, constructivist learning, intelligent machine vision, VLSI, error-correcting coding for digital systems
