Summary
Ian Clarke is a Computer Scientist and Entrepreneur and a pioneer in distributed systems, cryptography, and artificial intelligence. Ian designed Freenet, the world's first decentralized peer-to-peer network. Freenet pioneered concepts like cryptographic contracts and small-world networks, Ian's paper describing Freenet was one of the most cited computer science papers of 2000. In addition to his work on Freenet, Ian created a number of other ventures. These include Revver, an early online video website that shares revenue with creators, Renegade, a machine learning algorithm fine-tuned for small datasets, and OneSpot, an online advertising company. In 2021, motivated by the increasing centralization of the internet, Ian started work on a new Freenet — a drop-in decentralized replacement for the world wide web. This new Freenet allows developers to create decentralized alternatives to centralized services, including messaging, social media, email, and e-commerce.
