Jon Ingi Ingimundarson

Summary

With over 20 years of experience in the telecom and software industry, I am a passionate and visionary leader who strives to create value for customers, partners, and society. As the Director of Technology/CTO of Ljósleiðarinn (Reykjavik Fibre Network), I have been responsible for the IP network, Cyber Security, IT, software development, and technical vision and strategy of the company. I am driven by the mission of providing open access, high-speed, and reliable fiber services to residential, business, and mobile customers all over Iceland and beyond. I believe that by leveraging cutting-edge technology, innovation, and collaboration, we can empower our customers to connect, communicate, and create in new and exciting ways. I have a strong technical background in both telecom and software development built on top of a business, engineering and physics education. Since joining Ljósleiðarinn in 2007, I have led the technical growth of the company from 500 fiber connected homes. Iceland is currently the leader in active fiber connections in Europe, and has been for the last 4 years. I also led the transition in access layer bandwidth from 100Mb/s in 2007 to 1Gb/s in 2016, and recently to 10Gb/s in 2023. I have also been involved in all of the engineering activities of the company, from designing and deploying network infrastructure, to fiber roll-out, to developing and implementing software solutions (both automation of internal business processes and software defined network solutions), to managing and optimizing network performance and security. I have worked closely with the CEO of the company on company strategy, including acquisitions, analysing changes in the market environment and changes due to new EU telecom law/regulation.
