Summary
Served as the President of the Science Council of Japan and a member of the Committee for the Science and Technology Policy of the Cabinet Office of the Government(2002-2006); have been Professor of Medicine, Schools of Medicine of UCLA (1979-1984), University of Tokyo (1989-2006), Dean and Professor of University of Tokai (1996-2002); elected member of the Institute of Medicine of US National Academies, Association of American Physicians, Master of America College of Physicians, and many leading professional societies. He is the Founding Chairman of Japan Healthcare Policy Institute, an independent think-tank promoting healthcare reform, which recently organized with World Bank and the Gates Foundation, 'Global Health Summit; toward TICAD, G8 and beyond'; author of many books, book chapters and scientific papers and frequent speakers of many national and international fora. He has been a leader and an advocate for many academic and professional activities in Japan.
