Kevin O'Donnell

Summary

I am a hands-on, product and infrastructure-oriented technologist and leader with over 20 years of experience in challenging projects in environments ranging from startups to large corporations. I have spent my career designing, implementing, and ultimately managing large-scale data systems. Along the way, I have built, trained, and mentored teams at all stages of growth to support that effort and achieve ever more innovative and challenging goals. I have a holistic view of systems development and regard all aspects of systems architecture, regarding all aspects of hardware/cloud platform, third-party software components, algorithms, cost, resiliency, and reliability of the implementation. I draw upon an extensive yet highly varied body of experience, which makes me comfortable delivering my ideas and solutions to a broad audience without sacrificing technical rigor. Key to my practice is systems and data modeling of various types, which are essential to clearly communicating the system design to all stakeholders and contributors. I am, however, a builder at heart, so I have always been, and remain to this day, an intensely hands-on engineer. Whether it takes the form of contributing directly or mentoring others, it is always the building of the system that counts most for me. For the past several years, I have focused on open-source work, particularly blockchain, and provenance, where openness and transparency are critical ingredients.
