Skills
Summary
I have particularly strong skills and recent experience with AI-based characters in mixed-reality, including behavior trees, planning, learning, animation, and probabilistic programming. This has involved defining surprising and delightful mixed-reality user experiences, and also building tools for creating intelligent characters and delivering interactive stories. I live at the intersection of technology, user experience, and relationship-building. Fundamentally, I'm a technologist and entrepreneur, with an out-going social streak. I like both technology and the people who make technology. I lead teams that develop first-of-a-kind technology-based products. I've started three companies and worked in executive management (product, engineering, operations) at three others. I was Executive Director for Ventures and Licensing at SRI International, and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Institutional Venture Partners. I have extensive experience with early stage technology companies, with corporate entrepreneurship, and with Venture Capital funding. While at SRI International, I was on the founding team for Siri. I also Ran the "Radar" project there (technical work done largely at CMU): a $50M machine learning project spanning 5 years. I've sold companies and IP to Google, Facebook, Keynote Systems, Manugistics, and others. I've authored many peer-reviewed papers and developed new AI technology (robust scheduling, world's first Internet-connected telescopes, temporal logic in control systems synthesis). I have also successfully managed large teams (over 100 people) over extended periods. I've worked at NASA (JPL and Ames) on automation to support Mars surface operations. My work has been featured in Scientific American.
