Summary
I have been a composer of choral, orchestral and chamber music, as well as music for film and the stage, for over 30 years. My music has been performed in the Bay Area by the the Oakland East Bay Symphony, the Mission Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Choral Artists and LIEDER ALIVE!, as well as by various performers and ensembles around the world. I hold a Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory, and previously studied composition and choral conducting at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary. Recent activities include serving as an international juror for the 2018 Béla Bartók International Choir Competition in Debrecen, Hungary and as Composer-in-Residence for San Francisco Choral Artists' 2017-18 season. As a teacher, my years in Budapest afforded me the opportunity to have a close look at the Hungarian approach to teaching music literacy, and I apply it whenever possible as an avid adopter and adapter of the Kodály Method. I am currently on the musicianship and composition faculty the San Francisco Conservatory's Pre-College Division and have previously held positions at the Crowden School in Berkeley, Academy of Art University and the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. Some of my writings on topics related to the teaching of musicianship and music theory can be found on his blog at Medium.com. In July, 2018 I began a new career in arts administration, starting with the role of Operations Manager for San Francisco Bach Choir, a position I still hold, and as of February 2019, General Manager for San Francisco Choral Artists. Prior to that, for 20 years I earned my living as a web developer, running my own business doing that since 2010. In 2014 I recognized the need among self-publishing composers for an easy way to make their work available in print for performers and founded Swirly Music, now a home for the work of nearly 50 self-publishing composers and hundreds of titles in chamber, choral and vocal music categories.
