Summary
I have a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology with a specialization in Art Therapy. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Clinical Supervisor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors in Canada. I am also a Provisional member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and a member of the International Association of Counselling (IAC). I received my relational supervision training at the Justice Institute of BC and continue to learn about mentorship, collaboration, and my own ethics being on a solidarity team of amazing practitioners led by Vikki Reynolds. For 8 years, I led a wellness office as a counsellor/case manager for international students in a university setting. In this role I responded to crises, provided suicide response and support, provided advocacy support, linked students to resources, educated instructors and staff, collaborated with other health professionals, supervised two CPCA designated counsellors and worked in culturally sensitive ways. I have experience presenting and delivering workshops at conferences on cross-cultural work, identity development and holistic student wellness supports (Canadian Art Therapy Association, Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and BC Centre for International Education). I am interested in a humanistic practice-based evidence approach as it offers a more "just" way of practicing in highly diverse cultural contexts. I tend to take a systemic, ecological and holistic approach which provides context to an individuals unique beliefs and needs. My focus is strengths-based, relational and person-centred and I believe in people's creative capacity and inner wisdom. I specialize in supporting "creatives" and folks with ADHD brains. As an instructor in the "Mental Health" and "Issues in Counselling" courses in the Family & Community Counselling program at NEC Native Education College, I developed my facilitation, interpersonal, counselling, classroom and conflict management skills. I enjoyed working in an urban Aboriginal setting as it fit with my values and engaged my personal learning and development. I am a mixed media artist and have experience facilitating art groups and workshops with diverse populations: newcomers, marginalized folx, youth. I volunteered as an art therapist at the Vancouver Women’s Health Collective (VWHC) - a feminist organization in the Downtown Eastside that focuses on the health and well-being of women.
