Summary
Oliver has returned to school to study machine learning. Most recently, Oliver was a Visiting Professor at NYU Shanghai. Prior to that, he was a Visiting Professor of Computing and Technology at Olin College of Engineering, in the United States. He also advised technology startups, with specific expertise in natural-language processing, growth of early-stage technical teams, and computing education. He is an alumnus of Apple (systems software and advanced technology), AOL (mobile product management), Nest Labs (service software, dev ops, and technical operations), and a number of technology startups (CTO / technical co-founder). Past jobs and labors of love (not mutually exclusive) include: * Shipped web, embedded, and system software products developed in C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Common Lisp, and assembly. * Invited Speaker at PyCon, XTech, and O’Reilly Emerging Technology conferences, and the Google Tech Talk series. * Built and managed teams. Founded and managed offices. Directed (variously) product, engineering, and technical operations. * Co-founded a company that was acquired. * Co-founded companies that failed. * Created open source projects that are still in use and/or inspired others: PyWordNet, OpenLaszlo, Functional JavaScript. * Collaborated in the design of a programming language (Dylan). Wrote compilers and interpreters for Scheme, JavaScript, SVG. Published plugins for jQuery, Ruby, Rails, and Wordpress.
