Summary
My passion is developing solutions that help companies get the most out of information technology (IT). Organizations need to focus on doing what they do best and not worry about technology for technology’s sake; IT departments are there to help with technical enablement. After 25 years in the business of IT, starting out as a developer in a few startups, I’ve always made my way back to consulting so I can help organizations get the most value of forever changing technology. I’ve spent time as a business analyst, systems integrator, solution designer, integrator, project leader, software specialist and in various senior development roles developing COTS applications. Over time, I’ve witnessed a common recurring theme. The technology is always getting better (or is it?), but the challenges of effectively using the technology are the same. It’s always easier (but not always cheaper) to throw technology at a problem hoping for successful outcomes, but more often than not, organizational change and a change in mindset is required to take advantage of the technology you already own. The same is true for technology you are about to take on and technology you are about to leave behind. I’m a high energy individual and always the tinkerer/entrepreneur/inventor in business or recreation. Always on my mind is how can I improve things, make them better, more efficient or more focused. Forward thinking, practical solutions and the ability to know when tools will make a difference or approaches need to be changed. I spend my spare time, with my life partner on the ski hills in the winter and during the summer on our tandem cycling the Canadian country side or canoe tripping in Algonquin park.
