Summary
SpreadingScience was started to increase the rate that information flows through human social networks. It couples my 20 years of experience utilizing Internet Technologies in research settings with my 30 years of research management. We currently focus on institutions, whose organizational structure, coupled with the tremendous amount of raw data being created, hampers their ability to find creative solutions to complex problems. In addition we are moving into underserved communities that are overwhelmed by the information glut, working to leverage IT tools to help them reorganize their social networks to be more efficient I have started two small companies – G*Nomics and the Space Trade Association – to test my models for using new technologies to leverage the efforts of a few into powerful actions. I was previously Vice-President, Research at Etubics Corporation, designing next generation vaccines to fight infectious disease. The technology, also important for treating cancer and for gene therapy, is in clinical trials. I was also on the Board of Directors. I worked as a researcher at Immunex as it grew from less than 50 to several thousand employees. I supervised a variety of research projects while developing novel technologies critical for the company's progress. My work led to the creation of multipe departments. I also designed and administered the first intranet at Immunex, taking it from 18 pages to over 3000. Besides doing research at the bench, I wrote and edited a weekly online newsletter with a column on items of scientific interest. I have been keenly interested in using computational tools to help disperse information across a community. I helped found the Sustainable Path Foundation. Started by several of us from Immunex, it is devoted to creating a sustainable future for human health and the environment in the Puget Sound area.
