Summary
I am a highly experienced Board Member, Independent Adviser, Business Consultant and Lecturer, with more than forty years’ experience of working with senior leaders in businesses and in public sector organisations. I challenge old habits and build new capabilities. I’m accepted as a trusted and reliable adviser at Board level. I’m passionate about using technology sensibly to create business and social value. My skills are particularly in the strategic management, effective development and successful commercialisation of technology. I drawn on a strong scientific and engineering background to engage with technical staff. I have been appointed to numerous board and executive committee roles: Member of the Management Board at Knowledge4Innovation since 2017; Director with Technology Partners Foundation since 2003; Director and Vice President with Arthur D Little from 1990 to 2002; Non-Executive Director of Cambridge Consultants (1990 to 1999) and Director (1983-1989); Chairman of Chi Offshore (1986 to 1991). I have played a leading role in strengthening management practices and organisational structures for businesses world wide. Critical assessments of strengths and weaknesses support collaborative working to implement practical and sustainable solutions. In one example, I led the introduction of new technology management systems and structures in a large Middle Eastern Engineering Group, enabling it to survive and develop in a tough economic climate. In another case, I guided the creation of a state-of-the art technology strategy process for a leading European Engineering Group. I was invited back later to support a root and branch review of the strategy, which led to a significant change in investment direction. At the other end of the size scale, I recently worked with the Board of an engineering start-up in the north of England, supporting the successful commercialisation of a new sensor technology. I have led many other similar change programmes, in many different industries. At Knowledge4Innovation (Vice President since 2017), I facilitate policy dialogues between business interests and Members of the European Parliament and senior officials of the European Commission. Also in Brussels, I represent Technology Partners Foundation, a leading Polish Advanced Technology Centre developing international cooperation with Poland’s science and technology sector. I am a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Royal Holloway University of London (since 2013) and have taught extensively elsewhere. To find out more, contact me at richard.granger@richardgranger.com
