Summary
Mr. Friedman is a member of GMO’s Asset Allocation team. Previously at GMO, he was a client relationship manager and product specialist on GMO’s Global Client Relations team in the Berkeley office. Prior to joining GMO, Rick was a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Bernstein Global Wealth Management. As a member of the Private Client Investment Policy Group Rick reported to the AllianceBernstein Chief Investment Officer. He helped develop and enhance asset allocation advice for high net worth individuals, families, endowments and foundations. Previously he was a Partner at ArrowPath Venture Partners. His areas of interest included enterprise applications, network and systems management software, wireless, vertical applications and technology-assisted business services. Rick led ArrowPath’s investments in BlueRoads, TriCipher and BeVocal. Rick was also a Senior Principal at Technology Crossover Ventures where he focused on software investments. Rick led TCV’s investment in Claria Corporation, an online marketing platform, and was a Board Director of Achieva, a provider of interactive learning solutions that was sold to Kaplan. Rick began his investment career at Weston Presidio Capital where he was a Principal working on growth capital investments in technology, retail and middle-market buyout opportunities. Rick participated in WPC’s investments in Vitria, Virage, RedEnvelope, and Medscape. Prior to his venture career, Rick was a Vice President in the Software and Internet group at Montgomery Securities. While at Montgomery, Rick completed 16 transactions raising over $1.2 billion of public and private equity. Rick was also an analyst at Bankers Trust in both the M&A and Leveraged Lending groups. Rick graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
