Summary
Richard Weissberg has worked at the intersection of technology, humans, and planned change since 1981. Weissberg’s latest consulting engagement has been with the state of Vermont -- helping the state incorporate change management and collaborative technology into the implementation of health care initiatives. Until 2001 he was a partner at the Jacobson Group, Inc., a strategic technology consulting firm which he founded with two partners in January, 1994, and sold to Interliant, Inc. At Jacobson he headed the knowledge management group and helped clients create global teams by using technology to span geographical and intra-company boundaries. Clients included Lotus, IBM, Novartis, and DuPont. Prior to founding the Jacobson Group, he was acting vice president of IT and director of end-user computing at Lotus Development Corporation, where, among other things, he was responsible for the original worldwide rollout of Notes within Lotus. He also served as director of international product management, where he facilitated communication between development groups in Cambridge; and senior executives, IT managers, and end users of Lotus products in Asia and Europe. Prior to his work at Lotus, he was a product manager for a PC-based relational database product and director of IT for a medium sized software company. He began his career working on the NASA space shuttle as an avionics analyst, software engineer, and project manager. His bachelor's and two master's degrees are all from MIT -- in computer science, operations research, and management. His graduate research at MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science, Operations Research Center, and Sloan School of Management focused on human interaction with technology, diffusion of technology in organizations, and planned technical change. Passionate about martial arts, he earned his second black belt in Tae Kwon Do in December, 2008. He speaks three foreign languages badly, but with excellent pronunciation. Specialties: Strategic technology management, organizational development, general management, planning and executing strategic technology-based change.
