Summary
There once was a young man called Sal - thats me. Let me tell you a story. My first incarnation was in accounting where I levelled up to Financial Controller. But I’m a curious beast and was looking for more. Let me take you on a journey to find my three legged stool. I decided to become the co-founder of a successfully unsuccessful start up. This was an interesting journey in the start-up world that teaches you a lot and teaches it very fast. As one of my co-founders said, it taught us as much as ten MBA’s and cost us that much too. Next was moving into developing and consulting on analytics solutions using IBM Planning Analytics, this leveraged my accounting background. This then paved the way to the next journey. Technical Sales at IBM was the next vocation where I leveraged both my accounting and now analytics experience to promote IBM's analytics capabilities developing as a presales engineer and working closely with sales executives. Post IBM I have had Operational roles and more consulting roles specifically with workday Adaptive Planning which have only strengthened my three legged stool. Now why the three legged stool? A stool needs a minimum of three legs to stay up – as does any organisation 1. Sales 2. Operations (Factory) 3. Finance and Administration (F&A) Sales sells the widget, the factory makes the widget, F&A keeps everything running. 1. I have sold, 2. I have worked in the factory building analytics solutions and 3. I have worked in operational and accounting roles So my stool has the minimum viable number of legs to understand the drivers in any organisation to help it make better decisions. But that’s only part of the journey. I have a passion for gizmo's and technology. Wether its IoT, AR/VR, gen AI, blockchain, analytics or science fiction I will get it into a conversation somehow. So dear reader if any of this interests you, I am Interested in talking to you about innovative business models, start ups, science fiction plus new takes on old ideas. The End
