Summary
Early in my career I learned how to do software the right way as employee number eight at LinkedIn. That was my education in how to build companies. Most recently I was a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Netflix, where I worked on the DVD team to deliver a better experience to millions of customers. I have over 25 years of experience in software development, with a specialty in security and performance for high-visibility consumer websites. I am passionate about simplifying, refactoring, and creating software products that are reliable, scalable, and user-friendly. At Netflix, I have led several projects that have improved the resilience, performance, and security of the DVD website, such as consolidating the backend to three cloud servers, authoring new services for security and merchandising, and driving a security audit that prevented credit card information leakage. I have also contributed to the record operating margin of 70% by saving over $500k in legacy costs and consolidating databases. Additionally, I have been developing a model project for a Master's course on AI tools in software development, which I also teach as an adjunct assistant instructor at Virginia Tech. I have published many papers, received two patents, and earned multiple certifications and honours in my field.
