Summary
I co-founded my 3rd startup, MedStack, to solve the problem of compliance, privacy, and security for digital health app developers. In charge of product strategy, guiding software engineering, security, and compliance, serving as CISO, and working with an amazing team. First computer: Apple ][+, lead to lifelong Apple fandom, and ultimately fulfilled the dream of working at Apple in California as an intern while completing a CS degree at the University of Waterloo. On graduation, joined the Core operating system group as an Engineering Program Manager. Some stuff worked on: Mac OS X 10.1, and the switch from PowerPC to Intel. First startup: Semacode, also the first app you could download to scan QR codes. Won awards (e.g. Clio) and got lots of buzz (e.g. the Economist), but learned tough lessons about making money. Best memento: a google satellite view photo of a massive semacode that some crop circle fans mowed into a German farm field. Second startup: iPhone app shop started in 2009 based on Objective C experience (still a great language), lots of digital health, made apps for customers like Kik, GM, PointClickCare, Top Hat, and UnitedHealthCare. Passionate about / volunteered for: Engineers Without Borders, Hacking Health. Currently mentoring startups through The Forge and playing timpani in a community orchestra.
