Summary
On the tech side, I'm doing: * Enterprise server configuration, management, migration, virtualization * On-site PC & LAN tech services (Windows, Mac, Unix/Linux) * Website development, redesign, usability, accessibility * WordPress blog configuration and customization * Software development project management. On the PR side, I consult on: * Organizational media relations * Social media * Branding and messaging, copywriting & editing * House style guides, and messaging for the intended audiences Since 1991, I have worked in information technology, communications, public & media relations, systems & network administration, and Web development & design (with a focus on genuine usability and effectiveness). I can help you optimize online communications strategy, especially for nonprofits and professional offices, and avoid technological and messaging pitfalls. I have wide-ranging experience with press releases, journalists, social media, complex websites, multi-platform networks, development projects with remote workers, and cultural sensitivity and other audience-reaching concerns. In the mid-2000s, I worked with a Toronto-based business governance and development consultancy, as tech director and IT/Web project development team leader, focused on e-commerce sites for law firms. I'M PRESENTLY AVAILABLE for long-term or short-term contract/consulting work, a full-time, salaried position. Because I rely on word-of-mouth and do not spend money on advertising, and also do not employ anyone full-time, but rather bring on contractors only when necessary, I'm much more affordable than IT management and consulting firms. FRIENDS: If you have worked with me directly or consider me a colleague in some sense, feel free to add me as a contact on LinkedIn (my current e-mail address, if LinkedIn asks your for it, is at gmail.com with a username of smccandlish). If you're a personal acquaintance with no professional connection, please friend me on Facebook or G+ instead. Specialties: Web standards compliance, Web usability auditing, blog installation & customization, Web site design & redesign, management of Web development teams, media relations, public relations; organizational communications strategy, advocacy, policy analysis.
