Summary

People often ask, “Why Slingshot?” When planning the new company, I wanted a fun, memorable name that reflected my core objective: keeping it simple. Simplicity in IT is relative, but a slingshot’s reliability, low maintenance, cost-effectiveness, versatility, silence, and ease of use are excellent standards. Thus, we became Slingshot Information Systems. I’ve always enjoyed technology and tools that make life easier. In 1981, fresh out of the UMass, Amherst Business School, I started a plumbing and heating contracting firm in Gloucester, Mass. As that business grew, I began working with computers, networking, and applications that improved the company’s efficiency and profitability. I recall chatting with the board chairman at my dad’s publishing business about using email and giving up on faxing. They resisted, but we all know how that worked out. I gained a reputation as “the computer guy” and was overwhelmed with demands for my technical support. I soon decided to sell the plumbing business to a competitor and focused on building a managed services IT support company. That was 1997, and although the changes in technology and the world have been staggering, I’m still helping businesses like my own improve their efficiency, employee morale, and profitability.
