Summary
I've been leading and managing complex IT projects for many years, serving in roles ranging from Project Manager to Director of Operations. I have authored numerous of articles on management and working with teams and have taught program management at conferences such as Usenix and LISA. I'm also a co-author of the second and third editions of The Practice of System and Network Administration, and of The Practice of Cloud System Administration (Addison-Wesley). I'm passionate about gardening, and program management is a wonderful tool for having a great garden! I trained as a Master Gardener in Santa Clara County California. I also enjoy working with CAD/CAM makerspace tools, and building fun gadgets with Arduinos. One of my side projects is IT Program Management for the Emergency Services Department at Burning Man. Before that, I used my experience as a ham radio operator to do Emergency Operations Dispatching during the event. 2022 was my 13th Burn.
