Tim Chang is a Venture Partner at Mayfield Fund, focusing on venture capital invests in Consumer Internet, Digital Media, eCommerce/Marketplaces and Health/Wellness. He has been twice named on the Midas List of top 100 VCs. Tim led investments in MOAT (acquired by Oracle), Basis (acquired by Intel), Fitmob (acquired by Classpass), Tonal Fitness, Grove Collaborative (NYSE: GROV), TRIPP, Pillow, Playdom (acquired by Disney), ngmoco (acquired by DeNA), AdChina (acquired by Alibaba), Lumosity, and Iridigm Display (acquired by Qualcomm). He was also actively involved with the boards of Placeware (acquired by Microsoft), IPWireless (acquired by NextWave) and NextG Networks (acquired by private equity syndicate). Before entering the venture capital industry, Tim was a Product Manager at Gateway, where he launched Enterprise products into the Japanese market, and began his career as a tri-lingual development engineer for General Motors, working across China, Korea, and Japan. Tim also currently advises startup founders via Supernova, a collective of exited founders. Tim recently launched a social wellness/biohacking members club called The Portal, combining a yoga/movement studio, Asian teahouse-inspired non-alcoholic members lounge, biohacking spa featuring modalities including sauna, cold plunge, HBOT, lymphatic drainage, and a diverse slate of exciting, community-powered programming, workshops and activations. The first Portal opened May 2024 in Mill Valley in the SF Bay Area: https://theportal.house Tim received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he graduated at the top as an Arjay Miller Scholar. He also holds an MSEE, BSEE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was a Departmental Scholar and received a full PhD fellowship. His activism, philanthropic and non-profit efforts have included serving on the boards or advising California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), Reimagine Death, Little Kids Rock, Ecoversity, Gray Area Arts, Transformative Tech Lab, Consciousness Hacking, Northstar.guide, Berklee College of Music, GoldHouse. Tim also stewards Dwa Chandra (Https://www.dwachandra.com) in Bali and Euphorbia Gardens (https://www.euphorbiagardens.com) in Bolinas, California -- two eco retreat centers supporting consciousness expansion and personal growth work. Tim is an active musician and has performed with BlackMahal, Coverflow and RainbowParty.
