Summary
25+ years as a full stack developer working on digital identity and distributed information systems –– Currently CTO and cofounder at JLINC Labs, offering a new protocol for a "consent management layer" on the Internet using "information sharing agreements" to provide simple, automated, verifiable, exchange; culminating over a decade of work on user-centric digital identity. Also currently CTO at Tru.net integrating JLINC technology to create a socially curated digital media service. He continues to serve as CTO at Planetwork, a San Francisco based non-profit network using information technology to address the pressing issues of our time – the global ecological imperative, climate change, social & economic justice, and true democracy. In 1997 Victor began work on one of the first social networks, publicly released as Friendly Favors in 1999, which continues to operate as Living Directory with over 50,000 users. Also in 1997, he wrote Web Without a Weaver to help Internet users understand the greater implications of the new technology. He was one of the first developers for Identity Commons, managed the first i-name registration server and wrote much of the code for it. An active contributor to the OASIS standards body XRI technical committee for 4 years, he co-wrote the first XRI parser, and then co-founded the 2idi i-name service demonstrating the early XRI and XDI protocols for distributed identity and permission-based data exchange. Since that time, Victor has been lead developer on several social network projects, including Spherical, while continuing his research into user-centric identity and information sharing systems.
