Summary

“Yes, we can do that.” Is how I want to respond when presented with a problem that needs to be resolved or an idea that improves a website or application. Getting from “problem” to “solved” requires knowledge and experience that can be categorized into 3 areas: CODING I am skilled in backend and frontend development. My first WordPress site was built on version 2.x, pre-custom post types. I have over 10 years’ experience with backend WordPress development using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). The approach to frontend development varies depending on the website requirements. In most cases it becomes a “buy or build” debate. Often times we purchase a plugin that meets 75% of the requirements and customize the rest. Relevant software/platform and technology: VS Code (primary IDE), Bitbucket, Gitlab (code repository and back-up); code debugger extensions (such as Lint) and build-time debugger tools; ITSM bug submission/tracking; Cloudways (server farm); Cloudflare (DNS management); Yoast Premium for SEO, Google Analytics (reporting), Google Tag Manager (structured data schema); Google My Business; HotJar (visitor tracking, A/B testing); Web Dev tools, Xcode, Android SDK for debugging on web and mobile platforms COMMUNICATION + COLLABORATION The key to successful web/IT projects is effective communication, within departments and across departments. To give projects the best chance for success, I manage projects using the Agile Scrum Methodology and Framework. The framework consists of processes, meetings outlines, and documentation standards. Project management software is used to facilitate the process. I have used the Atlassian Suite of products for the past 3 years. Relevant software: Bitbucket (code repo), Jira (Agile Scrum), ITSM (IT Service Manager) bug reporting/tracking/resolution. CREATIVE CONSISTENCY Though I am developer I have always understood the web to be a business and marketing tool. Functionality requires elegant design for acceptance. The coding of provided designs must be “pixel perfect” and adjust accordingly on different devices and screen sizes/resolution for it to be considered functional. I marry the two by creating design system to ensure design and brand consistency as pages are developed.
