Summary
I’m a journalist and audio maker who creates accessible stories about the inner workings of innovation and how we can use science and technology to make the future better (or worse). I reach audiences through books, magazines, the web, radio, podcasts, live storytelling, and consulting reports—all with the goal of helping non-experts understand, appreciate, and intelligently navigate their changing world. I'm the producer and host of Soonish, a journalistic podcast about technology, culture, curiosity, and the future, and the co-founder of Hub & Spoke, a collective of idea-driven, independent podcasts. I'm also the author of Extraterrestrials, a look at the history of the idea of life on other worlds, published by the MIT Press in May of 2020, and editor of three science fiction anthologies published or co-published by the MIT Press. I do extensive work as a freelance audio producer of science-, technology, and health-related podcasts, and I've also developed a practice as an "organizational storyteller" for tech startups and venture capital funds, embedding myself inside their organizations in order to prepare journalistic accounts of their innovation and growth for key audiences.
